Top 5 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Business
You've already dusted the den, mopped the kitchen, and donated some old clothes, but your house isn't the only thing that could use some spring cleaning this year. Your business environment can benefit greatly from a little tidying up. So, spruce up your office, and your business, and your mind - and say hello to productivity!
1. Shred some paper.
Spring is a great time to review your files and get rid of the ones you no longer need. However, it can be downright frightening to just toss personal information into the trash. Play it safe and shred any items with personal or financial information. For example, pay stubs, applications, receipts, bills, and canceled checks should all go through the shredder rather than straight to the recycle bin.
2. Revise your business card.
In many situations, your business card is your opener. It needs to look clean, clear, and professional. Perhaps it's time to enlist the services of a graphic designer to ensure that your business card is living up to its full potential. Also make sure to double and triple check your contact information and any other information included on the card. Handing out a card with outdated or incorrect information can do irreparable damage to your professional persona.
3. Create an archive.
If you haven't used a file in the past year (electronic or otherwise), but it is something you want/need to hang on to, you may want to create an archive. If you are creating an electronic archive, do some investigating into setting an auto-archive function. Files that archive themselves can help keep your inbox and desktop clutter-free. If you're working with paper files, set aside one day a month to sort through the items you no longer use: if you don't need them for future reference, go ahead and recycle them, otherwise, add them to your paper archive.
4. Implement that idea you've been kicking around.
You know the one. It begins with "someday I am going to finally..." and it gets pushed aside or put on a to-do list when more pressing matters are at hand. This spring, why not take a fresh look at that task or project that's been simmering on the back burner? There's no time like the present for putting new ideas to work.
5. Organize your inbox.
Folders, sub-folders, flags, levels of importance - these days email clients present several options to organize your inbox. It can take some getting used to, but in the end, email organization is an excellent timesaver. So take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the organizational options at your disposals - you'll be saving time in no time.

Hobbies: How to Come Up With a Craft Idea for Kid Programs
Are you a camp director or Sunday School teacher looking for a craft idea for kid enrichment? Maybe you feel like you are just not the creative type, and you struggle with coming up with craft projects. It is true that some people just have a knack for finding or even inventing craft ideas, but your creativity can be improved. There are ways to make it easier to find a craft idea for kid needs.
First, lay aside any perfectionism. Locking yourself into thinking there is only one right way to do something makes every decision harder. Regardless of the kid program you are helping with, there are always many suitable craft ideas out there. Don't worry about picking the wrong one! If you've taken into consideration the age and skill levels of the kids involved, your choice will be adequate.
Next, consider your budget. When choosing a craft idea for kid programs, you need to be aware that some of them are expensive. Prepackaged kits to make a fun foam picture frame or a craft stick cross are affordable for a few kids, but if you are needing to do a craft with a lot of kids, these kits might cost too much. It's often easy to do almost exactly the same project by just looking at the craft kit components and buying the same materials in bulk at the discount store. You may have to do some preparation, like cutting out shapes ahead of time, or at least making cardboard patterns for the kids to use in cutting out their own. The savings will be worth it, however.
Another consideration is this: in spite of years of indoctrination from women's libbers, the fact remains that boys and girls like different sorts of crafts! If the craft seems a little girly, don't use it at boys' camp. Stick with lace-up leather billfolds, Indian artifacts, dinosaur art, and similar projects. Girls will like beads and anything that's pink or purple. For a craft idea for kid camp where there are kids of both sexes, keep it on the boyish side and provide some pink materials to keep the girls happy.
An aspect of creativity that the non-creative types don't realize is that ideas spring from other ideas. That is, if you look over a book or website of craft ideas, maybe none of them will appeal to you, but if you let them, they will spark an idea for a similar project. Use what you can and change what you must in the craft directions. For instance, the craft may have a slogan to be written across the front. If you need to change the slogan to fit your own needs, it's perfectly OK. For instance, the pictured project might say "Girls rock!" You can change that to "He is the Rock!" if that meets your VBS needs better.
A final suggestion is to realize that you don't have to change the instructions or create something new to have a good craft idea for kid use. Feel free to follow the instructions to the letter if that works better for you. The kids will have a great time either way. Just pick a craft idea, for kid creativity beats adult creativity everytime! The kids will make it creative, even if you have doubts about your own ability in this area.

How can I get sticker gunk off of my satin jacket?
We went to a football game and they passed out stickers for a prize. I put the sticker on the front of my SATIN team jacket. When I took the sticker off some of the sticky gunk stayed on it. Now its a spot that everything sticks to and Im afraid to use the wrong thing on it. What can I do to get this mess off?

What is the Meaning in Your Thanksgiving?
Are you fortunate enough to have good food and enjoyable gatherings with loved ones as central ingredients in your holiday season? If so, I hope that you’ll take some special moments to celebration a deeper expression of Thanksgiving… expressing gratitude for the abundance in your life.
Research findings reported in Born To Be Good by Dacher Keltner, indicate that for those who have few financial resources, money does create happiness. “Material gain allows individuals …. to avoid the innumerable problems associated with economic deprivation, including depression, anxiety, compromised resistance to disease, and higher mortality rates.” However, if your basic material needs are being met, it is the “quality of our romantic bonds, the health of our families, the time we spend with good friends, the connections we feel to communities that create meaning and happiness in our lives.”
The holiday season is a perfect time to remember what does give you meaning and happiness. Here are some ideas you might incorporate into your thanksgiving during this season and throughout the year.
- Make a toast at your holiday table, acknowledging the people there for what each of them adds to your life. You might also include a remembrance for those who are no longer with you that have made a mark on your life.
- Make a phone call or write a letter to someone who has touched you and share a memory that has stayed with you, that changed your life in some meaningful or important way.
- Start a new ritual to reflect daily on the positive experiences that have come into your life. Acknowledge the joyful moments. Express thanks for the people who have helped you. Recognize when you have been able to contribute your unique skills or gifts to others. And yes, acknowledge yourself for the ability to navigate difficult situations that have taught you endurance and courage.
My husband and I have found daily expressions of gratitude to be a deeply enriching practice. We each light a candle each night before we begin our dinner meal and share our gratitudes with each other. Some days we reflect on the birds humorously bathing in the bird bath or the incredible weather or sunset out our back door. Other days we recall the people we’ve worked with who have enriched our lives. We give thanks that at 58 and 66 we have healthy bodies and can enjoy a good run every few days. We often give thanks for the incredibly dedicated caregivers who allow my 98 year-old mother-in-law to experience quality in her life. This practice also gives us a way to regularly acknowledge the love and support that we receive from one another.
Make a choice to create meaningful, happy moments to your life with your own thanksgiving!
Finally, I thank each of you for enriching my life. I give thanks for having the opportunity to work and collaborate with so many of you who are committed to living meaningful lives that make a difference in the world!
