Memorabilia Show at the NEC in Birmingham
On the 20th and the 21st of November I will be going to the Memorabilia Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This is an event which I attend every year and find it an extremely valuable way of collecting autographed memorabilia, meeting fellow autograph dealers and autograph collectors. I have often acquired rare autographs andmany genuine autographs to add to my personal collection. In addition to this I get the opportunity to meet the celebrities in person and discuss business with fellow autograph dealers at the show.
Attending this show are a wide scope of celebrities enabling me to gain access to a range of celebrity autographs, such as signed photos, signed movie posters, autographed footballs, as well as other signed sports memorabilia, such as sport merchandise, including signed boxing gloves, signed shirts and signed jerseys.
This year I am intending to meet and collect signed memorabilia from the likes of the boxing legends Thomas ‘The Hitman'Hearns, Iran Barkley and Barry McGuigan. It would be ideal if I could build up my collection of boxing memorabilia with signed boxing gloves, signed photographs and other signed boxing merchandise. Other sporting legends that are set to attend the show are Superbike legend and arguably the best ever motorbike rider from Britain, Karl Fogarty, Dennis Taylor who is best known for winning the 1985 World Snooker Championship final and Ron Flowers, known for his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers and a member of England's victorious 1966 World Cup squad, this will hopefully lead to collecting autographed footballs, football autographs and other forms of soccer memorabilia. Many other famous sporting legends shall be attending, enabling me to collect an extensive range of sports autographs and signed sports memorabilia.
I am also intending to collect many actor autographs and actresses autographs. Attending this show are celebrities including David Warner, the actor known for his performance in Dr Who, Titanic and Planet of the Apes, and also the actress Martha Cope who hopefully I can persuade to sign some Dr Who memorabilia as well as other movie memorabilia. Also attending is the actor David Bradley, who is best known as Argus Filch in all Harry Potter movies. The addition of this actors autograph to my collection of Harry Potter memorabilia would be readily welcomed, and hopefully will come in many forms, such as autographed posters, signed DVD cases and autographed photographs. Richard Herd is also set to attend the show. I am intending to add to my collection of Star Trek autographs, so this will be a good opportunity to collect Star Trek memorabilia, such as signed Star Trek posters, autographed Star Trek merchandise and signed Star Trek collectables. Furthermore, the actors Kiran Shah and Warwick Davis, both known for their roles in Star Wars will be signing memorabilia. I am keen to collect Star Wars memorabilia, signed Star Wars merchandise and Star Wars collectables as it is particularly popular form of movie memorabilia, attracting a wide range of attention from all parts of the world.
So if you are looking for something interesting to do that weekend you could do a lot worse than visiting the show, you never know you might even and up speaking to me !!

The Future of Stock Photography is on the Internet
When my brother John started his photography business about 35 years ago...there was no such thing as an answering machine! Nor did individuals have fax machines...He remembers being very excited about getting a fax machine...because now an Art Director could send him a layout without using a bike messenger or Fed Ex!. Now, here he is shooting without film, digitally enhancing his images on a computer and delivering them via the internet.
For twenty years he shot assignments. A huge part of the business was marketing him self to ad agencies and design firms. Thanks in large part to his foray into digital manipulation of his images; he was very successful at his marketing. He was selling stock photos through "Tony Stone", later to become Getty Images, and through "The Stock Market" along with my line of greeting cards being sold through Portal Publications. He was shooting assignments, but he was very picky and only took assignments that really interested him.
If you were an advertising agency you went to Tony Stone, The Stock Market, or a tiny handful of stock photography houses. There was no internet and thus no way for small businesses to easily purchase stock photos for their advertising needs.
After the dot com bubble burst he found him self without assignments for a couple of months...but it didn't matter because he was making plenty of money with stock photography. One gig ended and another took over. Of course, today that industry is in turmoil...first royalty-free stock photos impacted the business...and now micro-stock. I even see pay per click ads that cost the advertiser money...advertising free stock photos! I guess he doesn't have much to worry about that now because the prices can't go any lower than that free!
I remember when it took a week and buckets of money to get a good print from a photo lab! Now, if I want to print a funny animal picture I just hit command-p on my keyboard and get almost free prints that are of far better quality than anything I used to get from the lab! I can make fine art prints that are even more archival than what the labs could offer right in my own office...and these prints are in my hands in just a matter of minutes.
A few years ago my brother bought a house...a beautiful house on a hillside overlooking a valley. He was surrounded by horses, deer, wild turkeys, and even bobcats and coyotes! He planned living in that house till the end of his days. A close friend cautioned him though, that he should not count on living there forever. "One day you will sell that house" he said. My brother laughed. As I write this He is planning on selling the house in the spring.
John's greeting card business was growing like crazy. Each quarter his royalty checks were getting larger and larger. People loved the cards...the company was thriving and he was their number one greeting card artist. Still, a business consultant friend of his suggested that he create a worst-case scenario plan for his business just in case something went wrong. John found it difficult to do because he could not possibly see any worst case scenarios on the horizon. Eventually he forgot about the backup plan for his stock photo business.
Fast forward five years...the greeting card company no longer exists. It was purchased by a venture capital firm that made some bad decisions and the business for all practical purposes died. He is now with a different greeting card company and they are slowly rebuilding the business. One thing is different this time...he no longer assumes that the greeting card business will be around forever.
Two new 35mm digital cameras have just been announced...one by Nikon and one by Canon, that both shoot, in addition to extremely high quality digital stills, HDTV motion. Videos are becoming increasing popular...as evidenced by Youtube and other internet sites for sharing video clips. There is an emerging market for stock video clips.
The stock photography business is changing rapidly. More and more small business's are turning to the internet and purchasing their stock photos online and even getting free stock photos! Digital cameras are not only prolific, but producing better images and in some cases they produce images of higher quality than you could shoot with a film camera.
I believe the future of stock photography is online. Photographers need to adapt to changing times and learn to market their work on the internet.
Who was it who said the only constant is change? That is so true...but he does have a method for coping with all this change. His secret is a good attitude and continuously reminding him self of the need to stay open and flexible.

Living Room Design
A living room can be described in many different terms. For some people it is a simple seating area or lounge area. Some people would consider their living room as the main living space in their home, where guests and family gather to watch TV, read and talk.
In most cases this room is on the main level of a home and sees a lot of activity. Room designs can be geared toward a host of activities. There are plans where the living room is incorporated into an open floor plan and in some cases it is an entirely separate room that has a door and is largely separate from the rest of the living space.
Multi Purpose
Some designs are set up so that the room can be a multi purpose room. There may be some consideration given to reading areas, television and other media areas and even simple seating for eating in the space.
These multi purpose designs are popular for small spaces especially in apartments. There are a lot of ways that these designs provision for separate areas. Media Rooms
When space is at a premium many times a room will double as a media room where friends and family gather to watch movies or to listen to music this is very common in a lot of homes.
With these types of designs typically the entire room design is focused on the media equipment and the seating area.
Formal Rooms
Room designs are often geared toward a more formal type room. This formal type of design may include some formal touches like crown molding and chair rail molding around the room. Typically in this case of design the focus is on seating and other touches that will make the room more of a formal seating area. These types of designs are still quite popular and are still a huge design element in new construction homes.
There are plenty of design options for living room designs that are available. There is a design option to fit every style and every need.

Preferred Quilting Fabrics-Fabric Cuts And Cutting Fabric
The preferred quilting fabrics for making quilts are 100% cotton. Most craft and fabric stores have a designated area for quilt fabrics and supplies. Every community has specialty quilt shops. In addition to bolt fabrics which you purchase by the yard, precut fabrics and precut quilt kits are also available for convenience.
There are different names for precut fabrics but I think the two most popular are the fat quarter and the charm pack quilting squares. Requests for the precut fabrics is time saving, less labor intensive, and color coordination selections have been done by the fabric designer or the staff in the quilting shops or the fabric stores.
The fat quarter is made of squares measuring 18 x 21 or 18 x 22 inches. Learn to make your own personal fat quarter. Cut one yard of 44 inch wide fabric into four equal squares. There is usually one inch extra allowing for waste or to keep.
The charm pack contains five inch squares. Cutting one yard of 44 inch wide fabric will produce 8 five inch squares across the width with four inches remaining. The remaining four inches can be converted to three inch squares. If you wish make a 21/2 inch roll which is called a jelly roll. Or make a 11/2 inch roll which is called a honey bun. These rolls provide possibilities for quilt binding.
Scrap quilting is working with scraps held over from other fabric projects. If you are a quilter most of your scraps will be cotton. If you sew with a variety of fabrics, there will be challenges to your creativity because of the different techniques needed to sew non-cotton fabrics. Fabric knowledge will be critical as you mix and match your scraps.
Fabric cutting is important. Squares, rectangles, borders, and sash strips will be cut on straight-of-grain. The lengthwise grain runs along the selvage edge of the fabric. The selvage edge is the outer edge of the fabric where the threads have collected during the weaving process.
Do not include the selvage edge when cutting your borders otherwise the quilt block will not allow the fabric to lie flat. There will be puckering and unnecessary pulling occurring in the finished product.
Cutting circles will capture straight, crosswise, and bias run of the fabric. Flexibility is needed in the circle and if you gently pull on it you will feel and see how the fabric stretches.
As you know the triangle is a square cut diagonally and will have one side which lies on the bias. Attach the bias side of the cut to the straight edge of the adjoining piece. Be very careful when handling the bias cut. Stay stitching or taping will stabilize the stretch if assistance is needed.
