Cleaning Wallpaper
After installing wallpaper, you can get the best of it by keeping it well-maintained. Making sure that your wallpaper is taken care of helps in retaining its colors and lengthens its life. Taking care of your wallpaper, needless to say, entails cleaning it every once in a while.
Most wallpaper manufacturers include instructions on how to clean wallpaper; they label their products as either “washable” or “scrubbable.” While most of today’s wallpapers are made of coated vinyl --- which makes cleaning a tad easier --- some wallpapers still require meticulous cleaning measures to ensure optimum preservation of its fabrics. The cleaning process also varies, depending on whatever stains you have on your wallpaper. If you see any spot or stain, it is best that you clean them immediately before the stain settles deep into the fabric.
If it is on kitchen wallpaper or laundry room wallpaper border, you can wipe it off immediately with a wet cloth. Wallpapers installed in high-activity and high-moisture rooms like these are more prone to stains. Majority of kitchen wallpaper, laundry room wallpaper border, and those used for children’s rooms are made of vinyl, which are more resistant to water and stains, and a lot durable than those made of paper.
It is important to remember that cleaning vinyl-based wallpaper is different from cleaning a paper-based one.
As mentioned earlier, manufacturers have a manual on how to clean wallpaper, but here are some general guidelines in keeping wallpaper spic-and-span:
For simple dust and dirt:
1. Line the floor with plastic to prevent any damage from excess water and spillage;
2. Whisk away any solid particles of dust and dirt with a brush;
3. Add a mild detergent to a bucket 2/3 full of water, enough to produce some bubbles;
4. With a sponge, dip and then squeeze out excess water and wipe the wall from top to bottom;
5. Rinse sponge constantly and repeat step 4 until the whole wall is covered;
6. With a dry towel, wipe excess moisture from the wall.
The same process can be done on kitchen wallpaper, laundry room wallpaper border, and other vinyl-based wallpaper. For stubborn stains, here’s what you need to do:
For crayons:
1. Rub Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the stained area, that alone is enough to remove any crayon spot;
2. If there is no Mr. Clean Magic Eraser around, wet a damp cloth with a mild detergent (do not use strong abrasives as they can damage the wallpaper’s fabric and colors);
3. Towel the wall dry.
For marker stains:
If the marker is washable and the stain is on vinyl-based wallpaper, like kitchen wallpaper or laundry room wallpaper border, a simple buff with a wet towel can remove the stain, otherwise, you need to do the following:
1. Clean the spot with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser;
2. If Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is not available, apply a paste made of water and baking soda to the stain and to the towel;
3. Rub the stained area GENTLY;
4. If the baking soda paste fails; apply alcohol and rub gently (Test alcohol on a spare strip of wallpaper first; alcohol can cause discoloration and major damage to most wallpapers).
Stains that have already embedded themselves into the wallpaper are hard to remove and might require the use of solvents. For your protection, always wear gloves to protect your hands.

The Jeep Patriot - From Action Man to School Run...
Most young males of my generation grew up with the identical toys to one another. There was the obligatory He Man doll (I mean Action Figure of course), Transformer merchandise and Star Wars figurines. There was, however, one toy that inspired almost fanatical devotion rivalled only by the opposite sex's love for Barbie. The toy in question was of course Action Man.
Some of my peers enjoyed the sheer wealth of Action Man's weaponry, some were amazed by his gadgets and gizmos. One rather strange boy was even entranced by the feel of his short afro-like hair. For me, the attraction was the vehicle that Action Man drove; a huge Jeep.
It wasn't any ordinary Jeep either. It had huge rubber wheels, some kind of roll-cage structure and was adorned with rocket-launchers and other projectile weaponry. Much to my chagrin, as I grew older I realised vehicles of this nature were merely the stuff of fantasy. However, the enduring image of the Jeep has stuck with me since childhood.
The Jeep Patriot is the model in question today and it is very far removed from the image I had of this vehicle as a child. Gone is the roll-cage and windowless vehicle of my youth (there are also no weapons to be seen). What is evident is a disturbing amount of...well...class. These days the Jeep seems to fit more in with the middle-class, aspirational lifestyle rather than the rough and ready all-terrain conquering behemoths that these vehicles were initially designed for.
The phenomenon of the 4X4 school-run has annoyed a large proportion of the population, purely because the whole exercise seems incredibly wasteful. Picture the scene, a huge gas-guzzling MPV with just a mother and a small child in, coughing out CO2 all over the place. Now multiply this effect by 500, slam it down in a traffic jam and you have the average school run at just one of the thousands of schools in this country. It's no wonder people get annoyed. But let's not get bogged down in semantics; we should judge these 4X4s on their own merits.
As I alluded to earlier, the Jeep Patriot is a much classier affair than the Jeep name suggests. It seems to have had all those rough edges smoothed down to make it more palatable for modern tastes, but has lost none of the vim and vigour associated with the Jeep brand. In fact, I was not expecting such a sprightly ride from a vehicle of the Jeep's sheer magnitude.
Amongst the Jeep Patriot's arsenal of gadgetry is ABS, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Panic Brake Assist, Side Curtain Airbags, Alloy Wheels, Halogen headlamps and Air Conditioning. This would suggest that this particular Jeep is going to be a comfortable and safe vehicle to drive. The handling is accurate and feels light for the size of the Patriot. Combine this with the eager engine which manages pretty much any off-road task you can throw it at with considerably more grace than many of its direct competitors.
In summary, the Jeep deserves to be used off-road as this is what it is primarily designed for. The tragedy is that it will spend the majority of its working life sat either in car jams waiting to drop off the kids, or parked in a supermarket car park waiting to be filled with Pâté foie gras and exotic coffee blends. Justice can only be served if you break through a farmer's fence and razz the Patriot around like a banshee. Then (and only then) will you witness what this machine is truly capable of.

Bollywood - A Rich And Intriguing History
The Hindi film industry or Bollywood's history dates back to 1913, when Dadasaheb Phalke produced and directed the silent movie Raja Harishchandra. The film's success inspired creative people and technicians to seriously think about film making. After the silent age came the talkies, and the first Hindi sound film Alam Ara was released in 1931, followed by the very first Hindi colour film Kisan Kanya.
During the Second World War and the struggle for India's independence in the 1940s, Bollywood seemed to move away from reality with a vengeance and focused on making escapist films to provide some much needed joy to the masses. However, films on social problems were also produced, like Achhut Kanya, a revolutionary movie that handled the sensitive issue of untouchability, besides the making and release of such patriotic movies like Shaheed.
Poverty of the rural masses and traditional family values were depicted with remarkable realism in Mehboob Khan's Mother India (1957). During the same period, ace director Guru Dutt gave the audience such wonderful films like Pyaasa, and the versatile Raj Kapoor created two outstanding films, namely Awara and Shree 420. Mughal-E-Azam (1960) was a period piece that brought the Mughal era on the Indian screen like never before.
Music directors like OP Nayyar and SD Burman enthralled listeners with their musical compositions and artistes like Nargis, Madhubala, Dev Anand and Ashok Kumar became household names. The 1950s and 60s saw the dizzying popularity for talented singers like Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar, who enchanted listeners with their melodious voice.
Shammi Kapoor, with his Elvis-like looks, danced his way to stardom in the rocking 60s. Amitabh Bachchan with his angry young man image ruled Bollywood in the 1970s. Action films had their sway over the cine goers towards early and mid eighties, but with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), the audience started appreciating romantic movies. Romance continues to be the staple theme in a large proportion of even the latest bollywood movies. But today Bollywood boasts of highly skilled professionals and advanced equipment, capable of producing movies that quite often go on to get global acclaim.
