ATV Flags – Make Yourself Visible!
Since all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are designed for off-road use, it's a good idea to have ATV flags. Whether the bike is riding around a work site, a hunting location, or even in a recreational area, visibility is an important safety feature. And not only can a flag atop a tall safety whip be a safer way to go, it also provides an opportunity to show off the personality of the rider.
Let's address the work use of ATVs first. ATVs are a great vehicle to have at a new building or development site, or even a tear down and rebuild. With the number of ATV fatalities in private industry rising to 30 deaths in 2008 and 38 in 2009, from 9 and 10 deaths in 1998 and 1999 only ten years ago (US Bureau of Labor Statistics), there is even more reason to include a flag on this excellent mode of off road transportation.
At a new development or other work site, large truck drivers will not be able to see the smaller ATV, nor will they be able to hear the sound of the engine if they themselves are moving. Seeing those bobbing ATV flags will alert the concentrating construction worker that they should be aware, and avoid hitting the rider. Should a driver of the ATV become injured or need help, the flags will also provide a guide to where they are located. This will assist a searcher if the rider is in tall crops or a wooded back area of a large farm.
The importance of ATV flags carries over into the recreational use of the bikes too. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, it's estimated that in 2007, 150,900 people were sent to the ER with injuries from an ATV, and over 750 deaths were reported. It's better to be visible!
ATV flags come in such a wide variety of colors and designs these days that you can personalize your ride with style. If you prefer to be a bit milder in your expression, you may choose a basic safety color of the red/orange found at construction sites and in warning areas. Of course, you can also find patriotic flags, team sports flags and fad flags.
