Reintegrating Into Family Life After Returning From Military Action
For many soldiers, coming home from deployment is both happy and stressful. While it is exciting to finally be back home and see all of the people you love, it can be difficult to transition from the military to "normal" home life. If you find that getting used to being back home is not easy, don't worry. You are not alone. Everyday soldiers struggle to jump back into their lives; keep the following in mind and it may be a bit easier to ease back into civilian life.
Don't expect too much from yourself. This may be a difficult adjustment and will take time. Communicate with your spouse and family about how you are feeling. You don't have to divulge every emotion you have, but if you feel overwhelmed let them know. Be patient and try and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. By keeping some sort of routine you will maintain a sense of control while you slowly ease into the life you led before deployment.
When trying to reconnect with your spouse, girlfriend, or boyfriend, take things slowly. You will have both changed while you were away, so enjoy the time to relearn one another.
