Unique Independence Day celebrations in various US states
NORMALLY, ONE would associate US Independence Day celebrations with the traditional parade, fireworks, barbecues and picnics, but this is not all. Various US states organise unique events to celebrate the Independence Day. One such event is the Bristol Fourth of July Parade. It is one of the oldest Independence Day celebration traditions in the country, and is held in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Fourth of July parade was held for the first time in 1785. On this day, the authorities honour one of the Bristol residents with the title of Chief Marshall. Also, a US Navy ship attends the celebrations every year.
Then there is the July 4th weekend festival, organised by Rebild Society, a Danish-American friendship organisation, in Rebild, Denmark, every year since 1912. There are speeches, parade and fireworks at the festival, which is attended by both the Danes and americans.
Nathan's Famous, an international chain of fast food restaurants, host an interesting and unique Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York every year on Independence Day. The contest was held for the first time on July 4, 1916, to settle a dispute between four immigrants about who was most patriotic amongst them. Although many people show interest in the contest, the regulations bar most of them from participating. According to the rules, a contestant has to be above 18 and should clear at least one of the following criteria. The contestant either has to be the defending champion or winner of a regional qualifying contest for that season or a wild card entry or invited by IFOCE. The winner receives Nathan's goodies, but for the first time in 2007 the champion was awarded a cash prize of $10,000. The other seven contestants also received cash prizes worth $5,000 to $50.
Detroit and Windsor also jointly organise the International Freedom Festival in the last week of June every year to celebrate Independence Day and Canada day. The tradition is being followed since 1959, and concludes with fireworks over Detroit River. In 2007, the festival was split into two events - Windsor Summer Fest and Detroit River Days. Although now separated, the events are almost the same and focus on fireworks, the most spectacular in North America.
Also, Macy, the US chain of department stores, sponsors fireworks over the East River, New York every year on Independence Day. It began doing so in 1976, and the firework display is covered live by NBC.
Every year on Independence Day the 10-km Peachtree Road Race is held in Atlanta, Georgia. The race was held for the first time in 1970. Thousands of people participate in the race every year with figures reaching 55,000 participants in 2007. The foot race is preceded by a wheelchair race, while Peachtree Junior for children is held in late May or early June.
In Boston, Massachusetts a music show accompanied by fireworks is held annually over the Charles River Esplanade since 1973. The show is hosted by the Boston Pops Orchestra, a specialist in light classical and popular music. Also a free concert is held on Capitol lawn in Washington, every year ahead of the fireworks.

Any Excuse - Why Do Men Hate Christmas Shopping? (christmas Gifts)
Christmas time is by far one of the stressful and hectic times of the year. Whether last minute Christmas gifts need to be acquired, or a dinner menu to be planned for the not-so-traditional families, Christmas involves a lot of rushing, planning and most of all spending. For men, this is a waste of time, effort and perhaps even money. Despite Christmas only occurring once a year, trying to find the 'perfect christmas gift' is not necessarily the most fascinating activity. Most of all, men and women do not necessarily think alike and may find it more difficult to find Christmas gifts for the other. Because men prefer practical gifts which they can use on a regular basis, they may be unable to decide on what to give to their friends and loved ones. In the end they may pick any old gift that can easily be wrapped and shoved under the Christmas tree at the very last minute. However with the range of different Christmas Gifts available these days, Christmas shopping may turn out to be anything but a boring ordeal, particularly with the convenience of online shopping. With websites that provide a variety of Christmas gifts and ideas in separate titled sections, Christmas shopping is made easier and less stressful. Not only are there no queues at the till, but one can leisurely explore the available options without rushing. This is particularly useful for the more impatient man who feels he is not only wasting his money at that point but also his precious time!
Personalised Christmas gifts such as mugs, calendars and even door mats often prove popular due to their humorous nature! They are also unique and appeal to people who do not want to have what everyone else gets for Christmas. Besides humorous Christmas gifts, one could obtain something of a more unusual nature such as grow-it-yourself gardens and plants for the more craft-minded individual. Considering that some males have a short attention span, an unusual gift reflects the notion that great effort was put into choosing it. Therefore it is less likely that they bought it last minute without putting thought into it. Receiving something different and unique allows the person to feel special. For example engraved ornaments with a loving message or the recipients name is both personal and yet practical at the same time. Such a gift can be given to both men and women which makes it very versatile. Cause some fun and games with a flying monkey toy for some laughs on Christmas day to relieve the pressure of giving the 'perfect Christmas gift'.
However for the more serious minded, a romantic Name a Rose Gift Box allows the recipient to grow their own species of Rose named after themselves! Similarly a Name a Star kit gives you the opportunity to actually name a star after a friend or loved one. Giving someone a relaxing day at the Spa is a good way to say thank you for working so hard this Christmas' and pampering them silly.
Perhaps somewhat more extravagant but no less enticing is Wine Tasting at a Vineyard for Two. Spend the day with a special person and benefit from this gift too. This is another example of something that does not necessarily need to be unwrapped and placed on a shelf. It is both useful and enjoyable resulting in an unforgettable day and perfect Christmas gift!
Of course, some men do not only buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones but perhaps their friends too. Some great gifts to give to male friends include DIY kits such as 'Build your own model Porsche or Lamborghini'. For a family member such as a brother or father an experience day of Flying Lessons may be suitable.
These Christmas gifts avoid considering complicated problems such as 'is this his/her size?', 'what if this isn't their taste?' and so on. If you, as a man, still feel pressured and uneasy about acquiring Christmas gifts, consider this. Browse online and gather some ideas. It won't take up much of your time and you never know, you may stumble upon the perfect gift!
Christmas time and gift-giving brings a lot of pressure with it. Fear that a present is not liked permeates each and every Christmas day when it is time to unwrap gifts. Similarly this may worry men when they shop for Christmas Gifts and often feel like giving up when they cannot find anything suitable. The above ideas may have piqued your interest in terms of the myriad of gifts available which are unique, special and interesting. These types of presents may reduce the likelihood of fake appreciative smiles and the likes! Above all, looking at humorous and unusual gifts makes Christmas shopping fun and entertaining. Dear men, giving gifts should not be a duty or an arduous test. It should be enjoyable, particularly the few moments you will experience when the recipient unwraps it. So! No more excuses allowed when it comes to Christmas gift shopping!

Food for the Fourth
When talk of 4th of July Celebrations start to swing into gear, it seems like food is always the first thing on people's mind. Beyond the spectacles of fireworks are the inevitable cook-outs; family and friends gathering to bask in the warmth of summer and celebrate the birth of our nation. Kids run around playing backyard baseball while the grown-ups congregate around the grill.
Certain trends may come and go, but from watermelon and strawberries to hot dogs and hamburgers there are certain elements of the holiday's food that remain staples or increase in popularity as time goes along. We decided to do a quick poll around the office to get an idea of what everybody thought were the crucial foods to have around for cookouts this Independence Day.
5. Chocolate Covered Strawberries – A lot of different fruits received votes, with watermelon almost making the cut, but in-terms of individual fruits 4th of July chocolate strawberries came away as the winner. You can make them at home, find them at a local store (perhaps as part of an Independence Day Gift Basket), or even order them online from a variety of outlets. Check out dippedfruit.com
4. Wings – Some said they wanted them sizzling hot; others were fans of milder varieties, but wings were on a lot of people's minds. Everyone seemed to have their own favorite versions, ranging from top-secret family recipes that take hours of preparation to Tyson's frozen wings. But regardless of preference on brands or hotness be sure to keep celery on hand as most of our wing fans here said the combo was crucial.
3. Hot Dogs – Just about American as the holiday itself, nobody was too surprised to see this one make the list. As with wings, people had different preferences on brands, and the list and combinations of condiments was pretty extensive. To be honest some of the condiment choices were a little bizarre, but ketchup and relish were highest on the list.
2. 4th July Fruit Baskets – While chocolate covered strawberries made the list as an individual fruit, most people enjoyed having a variety of fruits laid out; combinations of summer favorites like melons and berries. Someone in the office had just received one so there was a lot of buzz about Edible Arrangements 4th July fruit baskets. We've had a few of them delivered to the office and the fruit has always been extremely fresh, as well as breathtaking in-terms of design. Their 4th of July gift baskets would definitely be worth taking a look at to bring to your gathering. Check out EdibleArrangements.com
1. Hamburgers – The hands-down winner in this little poll of ours is certainly an Independence Day classic. They're juicy, they're delicious, and..well…did I mention they're delicious? As with hot dogs there was some variety with condiments, but ketchup, barbecue sauce and cheese were the most popular three (not necessarily in that combination).
So there you have it…get that grill ready, pull out the fruit and have a delicious July 4th!

If I need to register at UiTM Shah Alam on the 4th of July which hotel is the best choice to stay?
Which hotel is the best to stay for one night for the above matter? I am searching for the nearest hotel or most convenient hotel which is easy to get taxi to get to UiTM on the morning of 4th July? Thank you very much for your help.
Hotel UiTM for sure. Its a roundabout away from UiTM, situated near the main gate. Its a 2/3 star hotel but definitely most convenient hotel to stay if only for the matter of your course registration.
As for Intekma Resort, its a 2 roundabouts away from the main campus, and has been there for quite a long time now (a bit run down). Besides, Intekma resort nowadays mostly caters conventions and seminars, plus, most rooms they got there has turned into faculties and schools. If I were you, staying in the newly operated hotel UiTM sounds good enough for me.
I cannot get through their web but i have the number saved in my hp (got a friend there), hope the numbers stay the same...
