Claymation – Better Than Regular Animation
Clay can be moulded and shaped in to any shape you can come imagine. claymation however can be sometimes split into two different subcategories. For the more professional animators, armature based models are often used. A second category can be described as free form or shapeless 3D animation. With armature supported models a form or kind of skeletal structure is covered in clay.
Such “armatures” are commonly made of steel framing or in other cases just wire. Unlike the free form stop motion animation it doesn’t use any internal skeleton type structure.
Recommending what clay is best for animation! An oil based Clay or Water Based Clay or maybe a polymer clay? Almost any type of clay will do for your 3D stop motion animation but there are some clays that are a lot easier to use for a numerous reasons.
However we recommend oil based clay or a good polymer soft clay. There are various brands on the market for claymation such as Van Aken or FIMO. We like FIMO soft or Van Aken ClayToon clay.
You will come across the other kind of clay and that is water based clay. Water based clay is clay mixed with water. It is usually cheap but it must be kept covered as it will dry out quickly.
Claymation with “ No Armature”
Some really good stop motion animation with clay can be made without using any armature (internal skeleton). Even human-like or animal-like figures can be made and move quiet convincingly without internal framing. Also the art of stop motion with clay blobs of abstract or non human-like figures or animal characters can be very amusing.
Clay with an Armature – Is it required to make a 3d Stop Motion Animation?
The answer is no. The only thing that limits a good stop motion animation is your imagination. So get out there and run your favourite stop motion animation software package and let you imagination run wild.

The Single Most Important Tool You Need to Practice Sound HR Management
When I began my consulting practice, I had no idea just how many organizations operate without the most critical tool necessary to practice sound HR management; the lowly, neglected and often unused job description. Wrongly considered unimportant by many and non-essential by some, a well-written job description is truly the cornerstone in building your HR and compensation infrastructure. Let's take a few minutes to review why they're so important in managing HR and how they should be used every day in HR departments.
1). Impacts Your Ability to Recruit Quality Candidates While Minimizing Discriminatory Hiring Complaints.
When you have a quality job description that truly reflects the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications of the job, you're able to develop job related questions that help you and your managers effectively recruit for open jobs. You'll use the job description to develop job advertisements, postings, and interview questions for use when recruiting. Through using the job description as a recruiting tool, your managers will learn to ask applicants objective job-related questions versus subjective questions that are illegal or irrelevant (and can get your company in trouble!).
2). ADA and Worker's Compensation Accommodation.
Because of the ADA, you are charged with writing job descriptions that clearly identify the essential job functions of each job in your company. As a part of the mandated interactive process in returning an employee to work while accommodating their disability and/or medical restrictions, a well written job description is a critical tool.
Having a well-written job description that identifies the required essential job function, physical requirements, and work environment is essential for participating in the interactive process as required by law.
3). Measuring Employee Performance in Your Performance Appraisal Process.
Your managers will use the job description as an objective basis of measuring their employees' performance over the past year and setting goals for the following year.
4). Answers the Critical Employee Question, "How Do I Fit Into the Organization?"
This issue is HUGE!! How can an employee contribute to the organization's goals and objectives if they don't understand their role in the company? They can't!
Writing a quality job description creates linkage between the employee and the company by identifying what's expected of them in their job. Establishing an organizational structure with well-written job descriptions builds alignment within and between departments that's positively leveraged to contribute to your organization's goals and objectives.
5). Managing Performance Problems in Employees.
Unfortunately, in every company there are a few bad apples. The job description again serves to map out performance expectations and sets the stage for performance improvement discussions and potential disciplinary action.
6). Establishes Career Paths for Employee Development.
One of the most frequently cited reasons departing employees provide for leaving to join another employer in exit interviews is that they didn't believe there were promotional opportunities for them, i.e., "nowhere to go." By building job families and career ladders to formalize your organizational structure and internal promotion system, you'll help to retain staff and lower your turnover costs.
7). Market Pricing Your Jobs.
With the huge shift in the employment market during the recession, you'll want to keep your eye on the market to track the rebound and return of inflation in late 2010. It's essential to base your market pricing project on job content, not job titles. You'll need well-written job descriptions to be able to produce sound market pricing results.
8). Evaluate FLSA Job Status to Properly Classify Your Jobs as Being Exempt or Non-Exempt.
Now more than ever, because of all of the class action wage and hour litigation for misclassified jobs, you must know how your jobs should be classified. These class action lawsuits have cost many employers dearly, and could have been completely prevented had the companies conducted their own internal FLSA audits.
Job descriptions certainly can't be considered "sexy," are misunderstood, unused and/or neglected by many, yet remain the cornerstone of sound HR and compensation management for every organization. Isn't it time for you to revisit writing or updating them in your company? With the huge shift in market pay practices that's occurred during the recession, you'll need to track the marketplace to pay your people right. Now's the time to make sure you're ready....

Good to Know About Military Patches
If you want to show your support to the troops in Iraq you could do so by sending out cards or messages. You could also do it by buying some military patches and wearing them when you go out.
Military patches are essentially of two types- unit patches and shoulder patches. The unit patches provide information about the military personnel such as the unit for which he or she hails and the corps to which he or she belongs. The shoulder panel which is usually worn on the sleeve displays the rank of the individual.
A lot of military patches are available for sale at military supply stores. Individuals can buy patches belonging to the seal team 5, special rangers and the US army Special Forces. These patches help individuals show their solidarity to the Armed forces and are a great collector’s item. A wide selection of military patches is available on Internet sites.
Military patches came into existence in the United States only during the Second World War. It became a tool for the United States by which they could display their dominant world power. World War II patches are also available on some Internet sites. The monetary value of these military patches are not worth more than a few collars yet collectors spend a lot on it because of the wealth of history that it carries with it.
Military patches are made of various materials and are of different shapes and sizes. They can be woven, embroidered on cloth, leather, paper and plastic. Usually most military patches ate shaped like a shield with a symbol of the department printed or embroidered on it. The military patches usually serve as a souvenir to military personnel for their achievements in his service area. The military patches also symbolize qualification, designation or the participation in various campaigns and activities during the service tenure.
Sometimes, some special military patches are awarded to personnel in recognition of their accomplishments. These are usually pinned onto the military personnel during an awards ceremony. This military patch then becomes part of the military personnel’s uniform.

Latest Projects Abroad News From the Taricaya Conservation Research Centre in Peru
February saw the arrival of our 500th volunteer at Taricaya and that made the month special to those of us who have been involved in the project from its infancy. As the Taricaya family continues to expand, I am still constantly amazed by the dedication and commitment of volunteers at the centre as they create their own part of Taricaya’s history. This month was no different to any other with more than enough work to keep us all busy and plenty more left to be done!
The seasonal rains finally arrived with vengeance this month and the depressions around the reserve began to fill with water. This makes some areas of the reserve inaccessible for those unwilling to wade through a few swamps but fortunately volunteers and staff relish such adventure and “swamp” clothes were separated for the times when a soaking became inevitable. One such occasion was the successful release of our ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) together with a radio collar. Whilst this particular cat is no threat to people, its presence around the lodge needed to be avoided for the safety of the other residents in the animal release program. A young paca or baby spider monkey would make a tasty snack for a hungry ocelot and so we hade to take her further into the reserve. With the collar duly attached volunteers took it in turns to carry her through the swamps and out to EMTO colpa where we released the margay (Leopardus wiedii) in 2005. This site is deep in our reserve but not close to any of the borders so a safe place for the ocelot to establish its territory. It will not compete with the margay as the ocelot is larger, primarily terrestrial and more active by day whereas the margay is nocturnal and prefers an arboreal lifestyle, as demonstrated by our sighting of it on the canopy walkway last year. With the ocelot successfully released we now have the task of monitoring its progress in the wild by means of radio-tracking. This will be exciting for us as we have never actively tracked released animals before and it will be great to get an insight into its natural history as it establishes itself back in the wild.
There was also an accidental release in February as one of our blue and yellow macaws (Ara ararauna) made a bid for freedom one morning as the flock was being fed. The escapee flew through the door as it was being opened and has joined forces with the scarlet macaw (Ara macao) released last month as they both circle the lodge regularly. The blue and yellow macaw is much friendlier than its scarlet cousin and comes down to the hammocks requesting food. It would be easy to recapture the bird but I think it is better flying around the camp and strengthening its flight muscles because there is another blue and yellow macaw approaching its release date. The blue and yellow macaws will almost certainly join up when the other is finally strong enough and I hope to release the other scarlet macaw at the same time so that both species form pairs and start their new lives in the reserve.
The rains have also meant a significant increase in the activity of the reptiles and amphibians around the reserve. The frogs and toads use the temporary water for breeding sites and their mating calls and displays inevitably attract predators such as snakes. The species list continues to grow as we encounter more wonderfully bizarre individuals. Notable captures/sightings in February include a new species of turtle (Chelonia), a rainbow boa, tree frogs (Hyla sp.) and a fantastic dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus). The dwarf caiman capture came during a caiman hunt out on the river one night after dinner. One of the talks I give at the centre is on caiman and after the lecture I take volunteers out on the river to catch a caiman and illustrate the points I have previously outlined before releasing it back into the river. It is customary to catch either a black or a spectacled caiman but this time I was amazed to haul in a 1.1 metre dwarf caiman. Not only are these small crocodilians rare but the one I caught was close in length to the largest individual ever recorded. Dwarf caiman are rarely recorded over 1.2m so ours was a relative giant for the species. Their diminutive size means that they cannot compete with the larger caiman species and so dwarf caiman are reclusive and often nomadic and, as a defence against attack, their skins are much tougher with armoured scutes (plates) all over the body. This capture was unbelievable and fuels speculation about what other amazing creatures are out in our reserve awaiting discovery.
The topic of the fish project had become somewhat of a joke at Taricaya as Fondepes, the Peruvian organisation responsible for breeding the young fish, kept postponing the delivery date for the fish we had ordered. Week after week Fernando and I would chase them up with no success and it was looking as though the project would have to be put on hold until next year as water levels started to drop in the creek. It got to the stage where volunteers were laying sweep stakes on whether the fish would arrive at all and if so when!! Then amazingly when I had all but given up hope the babies arrived in their oxygen-enriched bags ready for release into our floating nursery. After acclimatising the young roe to the cooler temperature of the creek by floating them in their bags we then transferred them to the nursery. Now we must monitor growth rates and costs of food to conclude whether the project would be economically viable for the locals as yet another alternative source of income. Should the project prove successful then we will help slow down the over-fishing of the rivers that currently takes place and also provide the locals with a means of making money that does not involve illegal extraction from the surrounding forest.
Elsewhere at the pilot farm the flowers are continuing to flourish and we had good harvest last month from Percy’s farm also. The coffee beans are ripe and ready for harvest and the guinea pigs are continuing to reproduce as our base population becomes ever larger. The donkeys are doing well and the young Ronaldinho (named for its ability to kick in any direction!) is growing quickly into a strong juvenile. March will see us out on the trails clearing and remarking after the heavy storms of the wet season. The new mammal enclosure will be finished and work will continue on the existing projects. New accommodation in the form of more bungalows is also planned for March so Taricaya is continuing to expand and the hard work of everyone involved with the project continues to bear fruit as we continue to pioneer conservation work in Peruvian Amazon.
